about the staff
Every Stars coach is either a USA Basketball Gold Licensed coach or a teacher-coach in the Richmond Hill school system. Our staff works with kids every day, on the court and in the classroom, and brings real experience in teaching, developing, and supporting young athletes. We are not guessing our way through practice. We are trained, certified, and committed to doing this the right way. We teach with purpose. We coach with standards. We build real connections with our players and their families. And we care about girls’ development far beyond the scoreboard. This staff is here to give local girls the coaching, confidence, and environment they deserve.
Coach Cahoon
Gage Cahoon is the Director of the Richmond Hill Stars and a USA Basketball Gold Licensed coach with a complete professional certification path in youth and interscholastic coaching. He holds NFHS Level 3, NFHS Middle School, Certified Interscholastic Coach, and Soldiers to Sidelines Certified Coach credentials.
His background in Special Operations built the foundation of his coaching approach: clarity, standards, purpose, and calm instruction under pressure. That experience shapes how he runs practices, teaches skills, and develops competitive athletes.
Cahoon trains basketball players year-round, running weekly free development sessions, skills programs, and team practices that focus on long-term growth and decision-making. Alongside his basketball work, he also coaches girls in rec basketball, soccer, volleyball, and flag football, giving him a broad understanding of how young athletes learn, move, and build confidence across different environments.
As a father of three daughters, his commitment to girls sports is personal. That perspective pushed him to build a girls-first development pathway in Richmond Hill where athletes get real coaching, real opportunity, and never face a financial barrier.
Cahoon’s goal is simple:
raise the standard for girls basketball and build a system that gives girls the same investment and teaching boys have always received.
Coach Fick
Corey “Fick” Fickiesen is a veteran coach with over ten years of experience coaching varsity football and varsity basketball. He brings high-level coaching standards to every environment he works in, from the high school program to rec leagues to Stars training sessions.
Fick is a teacher at Richmond Hill High School, where he works with students daily and understands exactly how young athletes learn, grow, and respond to structure. His commitment to kids goes well beyond the season. He invests a tremendous amount of time into developing athletes the right way, building their confidence, and helping them understand the game on a deeper level.
He coaches across football, rec basketball, and the Stars program, giving him a unique connection to the families and players in this community. Fick cares deeply about doing things the right way and making sure every kid he works with learns, improves, and feels supported.
Fick and his wife have four children — three daughters and a son — which fuels his commitment to developing strong, confident girls in Richmond Hill.
He is the type of coach every parent hopes for.
And he is a cornerstone of the Stars mission.
Coach Brooke
Brooke Karsten is a career teacher who brings more than a decade of classroom experience into the gym. She spent ten years teaching Kindergarten and First Grade and has spent the last five years teaching three year olds at St Elizabeth’s. She holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in English as a Second Language.
She has three years of coaching girls rec basketball in Richmond Hill under her belt. Brooke’s teaching background gives her a clear edge with young players. She understands how kids learn, how to break skills into clear steps, and how to keep standards high without creating fear. Brooke and her husband are raising two sons and a daughter, which gives her a very personal stake in building the right environment for kids in this community.
Coach Brooke is fully bought in to what the Stars are trying to build. She cares about girls developing the right way, growing their confidence, and learning to compete with purpose. She is committed to giving local girls a structured, positive environment where they can improve, be challenged, and enjoy the game.
COACH REBECCA
Rebecca Cahoon is a longtime early childhood educator and multi-sport coach who brings a calm, steady presence to the Stars sideline. She has attended the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota, and is a local graduate of what is now Georgia Southern University. Rebecca has spent more than seven years teaching Pre-K, giving her a proven understanding of how young kids learn, build confidence, and respond.
She has coached youth girls soccer, volleyball, and basketball, and has been involved in every step of Richmond Hill Stars since day one. While a lot of her impact has been behind the scenes, her work is a big reason the program has had it's success and runs as smoothly as it does.
Rebecca and her husband are raising three daughters, and that shows in the way she coaches. She has a gift for connecting with kids and helping them build a positive mindset. Coach Rebecca is intentional about reminding players that they can do hard things, and she creates an environment where girls feel safe to try, make mistakes, and keep going.
